Choosing a mid-sized sedan that is perfect for your lifestyle and commute can be a challenge. There are so many options on the market that it can be overwhelming for the consumers. But when it comes to the all-new 2020 Nissan Altima and its direct competition, the Kia Optima, there is little room for debate. While there are many similarities between the Nissan Altima and the Kia Optima, the Altima is the clear front runner in this comparison. Whether we are talking about fuel economy, tech, or comfort, Nissan has won this round with 2020 Altima.
2020 Kia Optima
The Kia Optima is Kia’s best selling model. The 2020 Kia features many great selling points for a midsize sedan, which makes it stiff competition for the Altima.
One of the biggest selling points of the 2020 Kia Optima is its high fuel economy ratings. With a 29 mpg combined, it does make a great car for the everyday commuter.
When it comes to comfort, the Kia Optima received some upgrades to the interior design and offers spacious seating and cargo space, but it still doesn’t stack up to the interior of the 2020 Altima.
As far as what is under the hood, both models have the same 2.5-liter I4 engine but the horsepower and torque come up short in the 2020 Optima compared to the Altima.
An infotainment system comes standard in the Kia Optima, however you won't find Satellite Radio as an available option. The Kia does have a lower price point than the Nissan Altima but the difference in features that these two sedans come equipped with make the price point a moot point.
2020 Nissan Altima
The 2020 Nissan Altima is a well known and popular model from Nissan. Since it was newly updated with the 2019 model there are not many changes for 2020. However, with the fuel economy landing at 35 MPG combined, this is a top choice for a professional that has a daily commute. The Altima is priced slightly higher than the Kia Optima but makes up for it in fuel savings, tech, and safety features.
The Altima is a comfortable ride for both the driver and the passenger. This comfort is in part due to the “zero gravity seating” that Nissan has designed and implemented for the front seats of this sedan. This seating upgrade allows commuters to be comfortable while also being able to stay alert and feel less fatigued.
It is important to mention that while the new Altima is very sporty and hugs the turns well once it gets up to speed, the acceleration is somewhat slow. This might be a bit of an issue for those that do a lot of stop/start city driving. When it comes to the highway however, there are few midsize sedans that can compete with the Altima.
The technology that is available in the 2020 Altima is similar to what the Optima offers. However, this model does come standard with XM radio, which is not available at this time in the Optima. Both of these midsize sedans have an infotainment system equipped with smartphone integration for both Iphones and Androids.
